It All Started With a Pencil.

Gifted with a fresh pack of colored pencils at the age of 10, artist Abby Krick knew these were the only tools she needed in life. A Pittsburgh native, Krick’s creative upbringing carved her future into being an artist and amateur illustrator.

Currently, her work focuses on character-centric and botanical illustrations using colored pencils on black paper and digital drawing on black backgrounds. While she often finds inspiration in everyday things, her greatest inspiration is the feeling of wonder and first discovery that she first felt when she began drawing as a child. Illustration lets her create worlds in which the beauty of nature meet a world of child-like curiosity and imagination to create unique scenes of enchanted animals, creatures, and flora. Using a black background lets the form and color of the subject stand out more, and sets fantastical and a sometimes mischievous stage for the illustrations.
